It's time for Christmas with Lawrence Welk. We plan to choose some excerpts from the 1969 Reader's Digest four record set, Christmas with Lawrence Welk.

Our first choice is The Christmas Song. This stereo recording features Myron Floren Mr. Welk's featured accordionist. If you're familiar with the old mono Coral label arrangement, you'll love this stereo version.

Pop the bottle and enjoy some of the traditional style of Lawrence Welk!

Summer's End

We were going to share two albums with you for the Summer End post. After investigating their availablity and respect to copywrite laws, we are only allowed to post their covers and offer links to purchase them on your own.

We'll be out of commission for a couple of weeks that includes the Labor Day holiday while friends will be visiting. We're bound to be listening to these fine recordings:

Al Albert's Summer Sing-a-long. You may recognize this artist name from as the lead to the Four Aces. This album is a huge favorite to the southern NJ shore area. As we might be traveling to Cape May, we might just pop on Al and his hit, "On the Way to Cape May".

As friends are visiting, we'll probably break-out one of the greatest duet teams of the late 70's, Johnny Mathis and Denice Williams. Released in 1978, That's What Friends are For. To our friends all over, have a great Summer's End.

To get us through the rest of the summer, we've chosen a compilation 6 record album produced by Reader's Digest in 1972. This particular album was purchased for just the sake of it. There were no strong intentions to drive the purchase. The surprise was listening. I felt as I took a huge step back in time when I used to listen to WRFM FM 105 from NYC in the 70's. Reader's Digest was known to compile some of the more unique RCA instrumental artists. Here are some of the best that you can recall from those great EZ listening stations from the past.

We're planning on posting each of the six records that make up Sweet with a Beat for the remaining weeks. It makes for some great summer time listening. We begin with record one, Gentle On My Mind (side 1) and Linger Awhile (side 2). Our favorite choice here is Linger Awhile. ENJOY!

I remember in the 70's, Stand By Me would play on the radio. My dad loved the arragement. After several times of asking who the artist was, I called the radio station to learn the artist was Pete Fountain.

It took me quite awhile in the new millenimum to think of eBay to get many of the recordings we enjoyed on the radio. This is one. Once it arrived, we slapped it on the turntable and immediately to Stand By Me!

Memories flowed vividly enough that I pictured the phone in my hand holding with the radio station to return with the artist, Pete Fountain.

In easy mode, enjoy some of the later hit songs of the 60's. We found another one of my favorites on the album, It's been a Long Long Time! ENJOY!

Happy Memorial Day from EZ! We offer two 'strings' to the heart for this special holiday. One classical to continue on our Mozart Last Four String Quartet album by the Julliard String Quartet and the other by the famed Living Strings with a Salute to Glenn Miller.

We thought to post traditional 'march' music and remembered that it's the VETERAN'S that we honor this weekend. On a personal note, I remember this holiday to be most important in my family. Dad was a 1st lieutenant in the Army in WWII. He disciplined us to be sure we knew the sacrifice of all service people to our country. We understood it was through his war experience. That experience made us understand the reason we love the USA and fight to defend it.

God bless ALL our service people! We love you and honor your courage to keep our country the BEST to live.

Please take a moment. Remember where you are now. If it weren't for these courage individuals, you may not be here to see this print. Something to grow on!

Thank you ALL service men & women for giving a wonderful life in this USA!

Here's our 'string' tribute to veterans on Memorial Day Weekend. This is a fairly unique Living String recording. It's conducted by one of the very few LS regulars, Chucho Zarzosa. Recorded in Mexico in 1962 and produced by LS's famed producer, Ethel Gabriel. (I appolgize for the scanned label. It slipped on the scann. I promise to redo it later.)

It's our tribute to ALL veterans that serve our wonderful country, USA. Glenn Miller that gave us some excellant Americana music was one of our true heart service men in WWII.

God bless all those that serve our wonderful United States. We stand behind you!!!

Here's a classic RCA release of Joe Reisman and his orhcestra from 1957. Mr. Reisman was integral to many RCA album productions in the 60's and 70's. In fact, many of Mr. Mancini's releases were produced by Mr. Reisman. There's some great information regarding the recording and Mr. Reisman on the back cover liner notes. So not to reproduce them here, we encourage you to click-on the back cover, perhaps do a little zoom to read them yourself as if you were purchasing this album in 1957-58. Our favorite pick here is Joey's Song. One we recall hearing quite often on those past EZ listening stations of the past. Enjoy!!!

Just in time for Mother's Day a Bouquet of Musical Roses! Living Strings from 1967 conducted by one of the more unique LS conductors, Bill Walker. This album was produced by country guitarist, Chet Atkins joined with LS regular producer, Ethel Gabriel and recorded in RCA Victor's "Nashville Sound" Studio in Nashville, TN. So, you can expect a slight twang of county arrangements.

The album was purchased brand new in the mid 70's. I am even impressed with how well the digital conversion came out. The sound is pretty awesome.

Sing-A-Long with Mitch. I remember hearing this album at every family gathering. Easter was one occasion. What's odd about this memory is I recall the needle dropping onto this Columbia record where it only took a 'wave' of family to start singing with it. What I learned later in life is that these songs were form the 20's and early 30's. Depending on which song played, caused different family members to sing. Ah, the generation gap! Regardless of the gap, Easter has very fond memories with Mitch Miller and the Gang! Enjoy!

Since the start of the year, we have found the most popular download was in February with the two Ronnie Aldrich recordings posted. We are a huge fan of Mr. Aldrich here at Easy Stackin'. We'd love to share our huge collection of London Phase 4 recordings with you.

Many of Mr. Aldrich's Phase 4 recordings have been re-released through Dutton Vocalion in the UK. Over the last few years, they have been re-releasing many of our favorite London artists.

Released in 1958 when STEREO was the rage of audio, Raymond Paige conducts the Radio City Music Hall Symphony with musical 'Bon Bons'. You might call them American Bon Bons as each of the selections are American pieces and composers, Koffman, Anderson and Rose.

I'm actually surprised this record reproduced itself well from all the wear of play it suffered though the years on our living room Stromberg Carlson stereo. It was one of three records that I recall were played most every night for dinner. The other albums unfortunately are still in print on CD in some form or fashion. This album was included with Ray Conniff' 'S Marvelous and Frank Chacksfield's Richmond label releas of The Best of Cole Porter.

Enjoy the Radio City Music Hall Symphony with some great American pieces. It's great listening for the spring and summer.

This is a very special post. This RCA Camden compilation was produced in 1958. The recordings are actually produced from the original 78 RPM recordings. We've processed the LP digitally, we could not help the original pops and clicks from the original 78's. The recordings range from 1912 - 1930. They are timeless. The orchestrations help bring us back to simple times. So, imagine that you're living in the early 20's and winding-up the phonograph with some Victor RED SEAL recordings that you paid $1.00 for just ONE side.

Long before WFAN Sports Radio and Imus, WNBC Radio 66 was a pop music station. It had heavy competition with the popular 'AM77' WABC, that featured aray of extremely popular Dee-Jays. WNBC hung-in with the music format until about the mid to late 80's. Like many AM music stations, WNBC relinquished it's musical format for 'Talk Radio'.

One remnant of the station is the album featured here. This album sponsored by WNBC Radio66 features some original bands and their pieces from the listening area. The album does not refer to any date. I suspect it was released during the 'disco' era as some of the selections have that 'disco' flare.

It's a unique album of original music and artists. It's pleasant and reminiscent of a by-gone era. Now, should any of the artists or anyone know of these artists come across this presentation, we'd love to feature an update. How was your band chosen? What came out of the album release for you? Here's one of the MANY Gleason orchestral recordings. The lush strings, tingling piano and soft muted trumpet of Bobby Hacket. Gleason's style was popular in the movies when the lovely lead lady would make a romantic dinner for her boyfriend to come visit. Course, the opposite would happen as well. The romantic guy that wanted to make the perfect backdrop for a romantic evening for his female companion.

The sounds are beautiful. So is the cover art of this album. According to the liner notes on the back cover, the cover is original artwork of The Great One himself. So, you're encouraged to download the cover as well as an original piece of artwork.

Aldrich out of Phase4

It's funny how things turn around to where they start. Fans of Ronnie Aldrich know his big band stylings as The Squadenaires. Others like myself remember his fame on London Phase 4 Stereo recording with his 'twin piano' magic. I'm sorry. I'm very partial to those London Phase 4 Stereo recordings. They were definately 'cool'. One piano in the left speaker and the other in the right speaker. WOW!!!! STEREO!!! They were lush arragements with the Strings of the London Symphony Orchestra and later in the 70's added The Ladybirds. The Ladybirds you ponder? Well, if you wish to see The Ladybirds, get a hold of an old Benny Hill video. The Ladybirds were often featured as the musical fill.

Prior to Mr. Aldrich's Phase4 recordings, he recorded his fabulous piano stylings without his famed dual piano arrangements. Just centered inbetween the left/right side was Mr. Aldrich with a lush string backdrop. What goes around comes around, I suppose. Here is featured one of Mr. Aldrich's 80's albums 'Out of Phase4'.

The arrangements are clearly Aldrich. I just remember when I purchased this album, "I miss the dual piano". Well, things change as we all know. The arrangements are still there.

Fans may recognize the picture from the back cover of this album. I believe it was from some of those London Phase4 albums.

Music for Pleasure, MFP. Here's another 80's Aldrich release. Same unique Aldrich arrangements with only one piano. Though we miss the left/right stereo dual pianos, this is another lush fine recording.

We'd love to post the many Phase4 recording here at ES. Vocalation records in the UK has re-released many of them on their own label. Check out your favorite source of CD's (Amazon, Tower, Critics Choice, etc.) to find these great memorable recordings. You'll probably find a lot of Phase4 artists as well that due to copyright we should not post here. Edmundo Ross and Frank Chacksfield are available as well.

It's been awhile since we've posted last. The start of 2009 has been a bit busy. We're pleased to announce that the most downloaded Christmas album is awarded to Christmas Joy, Melachrino and his Orchestra. There must be a great deal of folks that still love that real rich orchestral sounds for the holidays.

Today's post is inspired by a trip to the city yesterday to see In The Heights. If you have an opportunity to see it, we encourage you to make the effort. The performance was extremely exciting with a great sense of humor.

Here is Norrie Paramore from 1957 with some wonderful string renditions of tunes associated with New York City. The arrangements with an added beautiful female voice whisk you away to city of excitement in a gentle way.

In 1965, Johnny Douglas took a break from the Living Strings to issue Dance Party Discotheque on the RCA Camden label. The cuts are in 'strick dance beat tempo' as Arthur Murray would say. They're great to add to any New Years Eve gathering. There are some familiar melodies and some unique tunes as well. They are 'timeless' and rekindle dance from the past. Our favorites are the fox trots and Downtown in bossa nova style. For you fans of The Jackie Gleason Show, you'll recognize The Huckle Buck (featured in the Sample Box).

Now the personal note for the album. In the 70's, I picked-up this recording as a 'Double Play' 8-track. The other recording on the 'DP' was Music for Dancing by the Living Strings. I suppose the theme was Johnny Douglas. As I was perusing eBay one day, I came across our presented posting album and couldn't resist. I was lucky to find it in stereo.

Here's a long forgotten Christmas classic. Billy Vaughn and his Orchestra presents Christmas Carols. I'm uncertain where and when I found this album. With a few Billy Vaughn albums in the house, I know I couldn't go wrong with it. I'm also uncertain if the album was ever released in stereo. The last groove of the record that takes the needle to the label to eject and slap the next record on top doesn't stop at the label. It goes in/out, in/out, in/out like those old 78 recordings. So, I suspect this album was released somewhere about 1957 just before stereo sound hit the commercial market. In any case, here's Mr. Vaughn in his typical styling for Christmas. Enjoy!

First released on RCA records in 1964, Pickwick International re released it in 1977 as presented here. I believe I purchased the album (new) not only for the artist but, also for the album cover. I recall having those (vegetable) oil lamps in the 70's.

The arrangements are great and reminiscent of Luboff's 60's style. Favorite pick is Jingle Bells.

Choral, just CHORAL! The true meaning of Christmas is here for you to feel. This definitely warms the heart and takes us back in time. I recall this album from my childhood so very well, in mono. I came across this album just last year when a friend gave me grabs on a collection his neighbor was leaving behind. It's in pristine condition and made the digital conversion well. I found an interesting piece of information when quickly comparing the two albums. The mono version from my childhood is dated 1957. The stereo version is dated 1958. Now if that isn't interesting? I wonder if it was rerecorded for the 'new' HiFi Stereo Fidelity of the era? Enjoy the true meaning of Christmas with Robert Shaw Chorale, Christmas Hymns and Carols.

A Christmas Toast

Here's a special treat, I hope. There are two selections on this album that I remember very well listening to WEZN in Bridgeport, CT during the 70's and 80's. I Sing Noel and the Bells Rang literally ring in my mind every Christmas with fond memories trimming the tree or just relaxing by the fire. I found this album in the late 90's up in Cape Cod still sealed. I really wasn't sure what I was in for. It was the back cover that conjured up memories of watching the Bing Crosby Christmas show with his family. So, I thought it would bring back the memories of the show. Was I wrong in such a pleasant way. When I played the album, I screamed with joy the songs I found that I remember on the radio. The album was released in 1977, the year we lost Mr. Crosby physically. I believe it's a unforgotten album of Mr. Crosby. We often hear his recordings from the 40's on Decca records with the Andrews Sisters. Well, here is Mr. Crosby in one of his finest recording in full stereo with Les Brown arrangements and orchestration. Hope you enjoy it as much as I remember. Enjoy!

Goodwin Christmas

We are extremely pleased to have received our first request. Presented here is Ron Goodwin and his orchestra with Christmas Wonderland. The entire album was favored by the easy-listening stations of the past and still on the 'pay-radio' stations today. Our favorite pick from the album is Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer. I remember it very well as I still have it recorded from WRFM Stereo 105 in New York City from the late 70's. It's featured in the 'Sample Box'. This is great holiday sounds from the past and perfect for relaxing with just the glow of your own tree.

We've been a bit busy here decorating for the holidays. While we're decorating, we're rippin' some Christmas vinyl and of course, listening at the same time.

Here's one of the most harmoneous vocal groups of all time, The Anita Kerr Singers. The album was released in the late 60's. I purchased it new at Bradlees in the early 70's. It's still in perfect condition and the digital transfer is crisp and clear.

I have not seen it released recently and I know some Internet searchers have been searching for it.

Recalling the day that I purchased these albums, I remember the Bells of Christmas Chime Again. I was intrigued by the album cover. I had never heard of Eddie Dunstedter before. So, I wasn't sure the style of music I was looking or about to read about. Organ and chimes sounded nice and I took a chance. Well, I'm glad I took that chance. It's a great and memorable album. It impressed me so much that when I found Christmas Candy, I snatched that up immediately.

Other fellow bloggers have presented these albums. I hope I'm not steppin' on their toes. They're a great addition to any traditional Christmas collection. I have to admit, these were purchased in the late 80's where re-issues were popular. These are abridged versions of their original release. They are in STEREO and crisp and clean!

For those of you that grew-up in the NYC metro area and attended a Radio City Music Hall Christmas show, this is bound to bring back very fond memories. From 1972, Merry Christmas New York from the Radio City Music Hall brings the grandeur of the famous show.

Of course, there's always a history behind each recording posted on EasyStackin'. I remember my aunt coming home from work (from the city) with this record. She purchased the record in the lobby branch on the bottom floor of the Chase Building where her office was located on the 47th floor. At the time, I didn't think much of it. For $2.00, it was a 'cheapo' album of a local show. Needless to say, over the years it became a family favorite. Each time I hear it, I recall the time she came home with it.

A special note for this recording, there's a cut of Richard (Dick) Leibert the famous Radio City organist at the Grand Organ Console.

The record has been in the family since it's purchase and in pristine condition. The digital conversion is spectacular as if you're sitting right in the grand theater. Our favorite choice from this album is the famous Rockettes in their performance of Jingle Bells. For you 'stereo aficionados' you'll appreciate the side-by-side, right to left of the Rockettes across the stage. It's pretty cool. I still have not invested in a scanner and PhotoShop. I apologize for the flash reflection on the cover.

Christmas - The Singers Unlimited

We're back in commission after a short (okay, extended) vacation. Occasional shopping occurred while on vacation. Surprising enough, it reminded me what time of year it was. Christmas is creeping into the stores. It reminded me of ALL the Christmas records that need to be converted and hopefully posted.

We begin with a fantastic harmony group, the Singers Unlimited. The is a great album that is sure to create a true 'old fashioned' Christmas. I remember purchasing this record new while in college. I never really realized the poor surface noise until the conversion here. I'm very pleased with a little cleaning and equalization, it came out well for listening enjoyment.

This album was released on CD a few years ago. I haven't seen it available in awhile. So, I don't think we're infringing on any copywrite issues here.

So, we're going to keep prepping-up for the holiday season. Enjoy the first selection.

GoodWill Hunting

Easy Stackin' is going to be a out of commission for the next couple of weeks. So, we thought we'd leave you with two selections. Awhile ago, I promised not to attend any more record conventions or purchase any more vinyl as there is more than plenty of records and vinyl in the house, already.

A friend recently took me to a GoodWill store just browsing for themselves. I searched around and came across a used record bin. Curious, I searched through the few stacks of LP's. Several times I said in my mind, "I've got that", repeatedly. A couple of those "I've got that" found myself pausing a moment and realizing, I do have it in mono.

WAIT, these are in STEREO!!! So, we gave a quick glace at the condition. They looked pretty well kept. For a $1.00 each, how could you go wrong? So here are the two STEREO treats.

From 1962, the Boston Pops performs Leroy Anderson. It's the 'NEW' Sound of the Boston Pops. I found it funny that Sleigh Ride and Serenata sounded exactly like my 78 copy. Course, now in STEREO!!!

Our second Stereo find is a childhood memory album. My dad played this album frequently from the RCA console stereo in the living room when the album was released in the later mid 60's. I'm sure this was a 'gold' album for Mr. Williams. Summer Samba, Born Free and Cherish were huge hits on the radio. Enoch Light STEREO 35MM

Here’s another treasure that’s been in the family as long as I can remember. In fact, I was always intrigued with the album cover as it was the first album stacked in the wire record rack at my aunt’s house. I’m actually surprised that some of my fellow ‘EZ’ bloggers haven’t posted it before. Perhaps, they’re giving me the limelight for it.

From 1961, Enoch Light & his orchestra in Stereo 35MM sound. It’s the successor to Mr. Light’s Persuasive Percussion on his own Command label. Recorded in Carnegie Hall, the sound of this album is extremely entertaining and technically advanced for its period. Hope you enjoy, Stereo 35MM.

Pepe Jaramillo - En Broadway

Here was a treasured find. I was able to find this album on ebay. There's a story behind each of the recordings posted on ES (EasyStackin'). I have been searching for I Talk to the Trees by Mr. Jaramillo since I heard it on WEZN (Bridgeport, CT) in the 70's and 80's. I needed a friend to translate this Mexican album for me to be sure the song was on it. I struck gold!

I suspect the album was released in the late 50's due to the broadway song list. It's a bit beat up. We tried our best to clean it up and feel it came out pretty well.

The album is typical Latin American piano that you can imagine at poolside with a rum and Coke. Today it might be the popular Mojito!

Our favorite choice from the album is featured in the Sample Box. Another favorite of the album is Hey There. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do here at EasyStackin'.

Definate Legend

After a vacation trip, we return to the classical section of our collection. The next album up, Caruso, A Legendary Performer compiled from 78 recordings on RCA records in 1976. Even in 1976, digital processing was in it's infancy. Here we get a few Caruso 'classics' from their 78RPM source. What's interesting is you can hear the rough 78 scratches and surface noise even with the digital processing by RCA. I thought for sure it would duplicate onto the MP3 download here. I was surprised at how well the recording came out. These recordings are from the 1920's from original 'Victor' Red Seal 78's. Usually they were one sided records that has a cost of $1.00 each. It's a trip back into history. So for you opera fans, here's some fantastic quality recordings from a truly 'classic' and legendary performer, Caruso. Enjoy!

The Beach Boys Song Book

Here's the answer to our 'clue', The Hollyridge Strings "The Beach Boys Song Book". The album was released in the mid sixties amongst a string of albums featuring instrumental versions of 'pop' group artists as the Beatles, Four Seasons, Elvis, Nat King Cole and eventually Simon & Garfunkle. This studio orchestra of Capital records conducted by Stu Phillips has a very unique style to themselves. The Hollyridge Strings were quite popular with air time on easy-listening stations. Enjoy some of your favorite Beach Boys hits that even includes a Christmas favorite, Little Saint Nick.

More Summer Delights

Here are some Columbia records delights. First, "Stars for a Summer Night" released as a compilation in the very early sixties. This 'De Luxe' two record set included popular and classical artists. Most of the cuts from this album are still available through various CD releases.

With the popularity of "Stars for a Summer Night" we get version II released a few years later, "Songs for a Summer Night". Another double record set, this one that highlights some of Columbia's vocalists and vocal groups. Again, many of these cuts are still available through various CD releases.

Rampal Surprise

During my college career, I had purchased season tickets to The Hartford Symphony. As a fan of Rampal, I could not pass on seeing him perform live. As I was converting my Rampal albums, I came across this program autographed by Rampal and Arthur Winograd, conductor of The Hartford Symphony.

So, I share this treasure with you as a fond symphonic memory in my college years. I would have loved to post it here. I couldn't find a way to convert the PDF file to a JPEG.

We finally finished off the Rampal recordings. These pictured here are also available on CD format and available still through your favorite CD store.

After the Rampal section, we found this unique recording by E. Powers Biggs. Bach Organ Favorites recorded on the Flentrop Organ in the Busch-Reisinger Museum at Harvard University. Recorded in 1959 just a year after the organ installation. I believe this maybe available on CD as well. Although, if you wish to prove me wrong, I'll be more than happy to post the recording. I purchased the recording new and the transfer came out very crisp and clear.

Jean-Pierre Rampal: Bach & Telemann Flute Concertos

This week, we are still in the classical section with Jean-Pierre. This album released in 1974 on Odyssey (Columbia) is with the Saar Radio Chamber Orchestra conducted by Karl Ristenpart. The favorites here are Telemann. They are light and melodic. It's great music for a Sunday afternoon and a glass of your favorite wine.

Rampal, Mozart and Six Sonatas for Flute and Harpsichord

Back to the classical section with Jean-Pierre Rampal, Flute and Robert Veyron-LaCrouix on the harpsichord. If you're a reader of these little tibbits of personal connection, you might find this a bit interesting and I'll need your help. Otherwise, download the album and enjoy.

This probably would not have been a recording that I would make a conscientious effort to purchase. I had an RCA 8-Track of 'Classics of the Movies'. I probably picked it up at Woolco bargain bin. The first cut on that 8-track had Sonata No. 4 in F major, I- Allegro. The piece became a favorite of mine until the 8-track eventually broke as they often did. I can't remember how I remembered the lost recording until I came across this presented recording in a used record shop. When I got home and played the first cut, everything came back to me with a good amount of excitement. I think I took a chance with Flute and Harpsichord.

Here's where I need some help. If anyone can recognize the piece and identify the movie it was used in, please drop me a note. I always remember that 8-track and fond memories.

Maruice Larcange - Larcange Plays Becaud

Here's another favorite from the London Phase 4 Stereo library. Larcange Plays the French composer, Becaud. A favorite of easy-listening stations. 90% of the album was always featured on the stations that I remember listening, WRFM, WPAT, WVNJ, WEZN. I believe a portion of this album has been re-released in compilations. I remember purchasing the album 'new' actually in 1977. So, the digital transfer came out fairly clean. Hope you enjoy it!

Neil Diamond Songbook by The Marina Strings

American Idle this past week featured Neil Diamond songs. So, we too at EasyStackin’ will do the same with the Marina Strings. Every cut from this album was often played on the easy-listening stations in the 70’s and 80’s. Here is Neil Diamond’s Solid Gold Songbook performed by The Marina Strings. Sit back and reminisce. Ronnie Aldrich and his Two Pianos

Back to the Easy Listening section we choose Ronnie Aldrich's second London Phase 4 Stereo album, 1962. Simply titled, 'Ronnie Aldrich and his Two Pianos'. It's always a thrill to hear one piano on the left then on the right and then TOGETHER. Ronnie has a very distintive style. Purchased brand new, the 7-zip conversion came out pretty well.

The first album, Melody and Percussion for Two Pianos was his first released in 1961.

By the way, all the recordings available have been zipped with '7-Zip'. I've received some feedback from some visitors having some difficulty unzipping with other versions.

The RCA Victor 45

Here's what prompted to me post the Stan Getz recordings. My refurbished 45 player still runs GREAT! We had the single Desafinado on a 45. We played it often on the RCA 45 machine as seen here. I hope this short video clip brings back many fond memories when you used to put a stack of 45's (even better EP's) on the 45 machine and partied the night away!

Stan Getz - The Girl From Ipanema, The Bossa Nova Years 2

Album TWO. This album is with the Gary McFarland Orchestra released in October 1962 as Big Band Bossa Nova. Stan is joined with Doc Severinsen as one of the major personalities within the orchestra. One Note Samba is recreated in a different arrangement here from the first album. Kind of exciting, isn't it? Favorite cuts from this album, Bim Bom and One Note Samba. Hope you enjoy! Stan Getz- The Girl From Ipanema, The Bossa Nova Years 1

Today, we dig into the jazz section. Not just jazz. BOSSA NOVA jazz! This is a box set released in 1984. I purchased it new at J&R Music World in NYC with great excitment in 1987. The box set contains five albums Getz recorded in popular 'latin flair' of the 60's. These albums were released betwen 1962 - 1964. The first one featured here is the ablum, "Jazz Samba' with guitarist, Charlie Byrd. The pop hit Desafinado hit #15 on the chart on 9/29/62. So grab a cocktail or two with some friends. This is great 'gathering' background music for any relaxing social occassion.

Zodiac Suite - Norrie Paramor

Here's a very unique album and one that I haven't really seen posted in other 'blog'. It's a monoral album from the late 50's with original compositions from the artist himself, Norrie Paramor. My personal connection with the album was from my dad. This album was played so often that the spindle hole was expanded due to the many drops onto the platter. My ultimate favorite is Capricious Capricorn. Spotlighted in the 'Sample Box'. These are very rich string arrangements with quite the flair. I'm not really sure if it was ever released in stereo. Regarless to me, it's a fantastic album. I hope you enjoy it as well. Technically due to it's multiple plays, it's a bit worn and you'll detect a few pops/clicks in the digital convertion. Course, like many of us, some of the scratches and pops became part of the memorable recording. Enjoy!

4/26/07: Audio Update
It dawned on me after posting, this MP3 format was a transfer that I did many years ago when I first got a CD burner. Similar to a tape recorder, it just recorded exactly what was pumped into it. No options for cleaning or equilization. So, here's an update of cleaning and equilization. I'm leaving the original just in case someone wants to compare. Click 'Audio Update' for the link.

Additional information that I found while reading the back cover, the album was recorded in 1957. Further investigation found it is available in stereo. Sorry that dad purchased the monoral version. It's still great sound! Enjoy!

Stokowski Conducts Bizet

This time we go into the classical vaults. I just recently converted this album for my own personal use and thought, let's share it! I wish I could find the original cover. I know Columbia took many of their classical recordings and reissued them later in the 90's in their Great Performances series. I purchased this record when first released back in 1977. It was Columbia's Record of the Month, February 1977. Also noted on the liner notes, 100 years of recorded music. So, since it's mine from the start and kept in prestine condition, the MP3 transfer impressed me. The transcriptions here are fantastic. Here in his 95th year, Stokowski, a legend in his time! Enjoy!

Mantovani Latin Rendezvous

Here's another childhood memory. Dad had this on his 'stack' of records that played on that RCA console Stereo. I remember it often at his parties and Sunday afternoons when he'd sit at the dinning room table paying the monthly bills. I suppose this was the start of my 'easy-listening' enjoyment. Favorites are Be Mine Tonight, La Paloma, Siboney and Perfidia. Like dad, I love the latin beat. What's interesting about this album is that it was created by a Mantovani contest. Mantovani fans were encouraged to submit their ideas for an album. My childhood was in NJ until I moved to CT at 10 years of age. The winners of this 1960's contest were too from NJ. How weird is that? We listened to stations like WPAT FM93, WVNJ and WRFM Stereo 105 from NYC. Okay, I'm reminiscing too much. Here's one of Mantovani's greatest albums. Here is it in FULL STEREO. Felix Slatkin - Our Winter Love

This is a childhood memory for me. I can remember hearing this 'monoral' album on my parents stereo quite frequently. So much, I know every move on the album. I was lucky enough to find it in stereo a few years ago. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do recalling fond childhood memories. 1963. My favorite selections: Our Winter Love, Gina, Meditation and Lawrence of Arabia. These are truly awesome arrangements.

Musical Moments with Mantovani

Here it is!!! The first available download from EasyStackin'. It took some time to figure out how to get it posted with one file through RapidShare. After about an hour and half, it came to me. You have to ZIP!

The album was purchased in a used record store shortly after the original release in the mid-70's. Many of the cuts were broadcast favorites on easy-listening stations even up through the declining years of easy-listening radio in the 90's.

The album was actually in excellent shape as if I purchased it new. Some technical cleaning and equalization was used in the transfer process. The outcome, a very clean and improved audio spectacular.

St. Patrick's Day Welcome

Happy St. Patrick's Day and Welcome to Easy Stackin'. Today is the first day of this Blog inception. As a novice here in the technical field, I soon plan to have postings of the best of easy-listening music to share on the Net. I have been inspired by other 'blogger's' with the same interest and thought it was my time to join them by sharing my record collection, too!

So being a novice and this is the start of what I hope to be something BIG, I can use help. I've already set-up the blog space. I assume I need to set-up a 'Rapid-Share' type of service? My main concern and desire any help is how do I get album cover art on the site for each recording I wish to share? I can use my digital camera. That would make it look like an eBay item. I've heard you can scan parts of the cover on a scanner and then paste them together on PhotoShop?

Okay, help me out here. I really want to make the album art look well for you. In the mean time, here's a few albums that I've recently converted to digital format that should be shared here soon.

Although, these two albums are by Mantovani, my biggest favorite is Ray Conniff and Ronnie Aldrich. So, as soon as I find the quick ways to handle posting and sharing the files, they'll be here.
